Two things:

1: Air Force Civil Engineers rule!

2: I hate mosquitoes

If you do not see a post from me with in the next thirty days, then it is because I have died of a vector carried disease. Please do not send flowers. Instead, please send donations to the Make All Mosquitoes Extinct Fund

Here are some good picks of Lucas from the last 1 to 3 weeks. The little man is already showing lots of Einstein traits as well as Olympic gold medallist traits. So far he is doing very well in this year's games: I think that he has almost set the world record for most applesauce spilled on the floor in 10 seconds. Unfortunately, some 4 year old Ukrainian kid edged him out. His next event it the mess-athlon in which he one of the favorites. The mess-athlon consists of applesauce dropping, rapid diaper filling, followed by the vaunted toy bash. (His toy bashing skills really are quite good!)

The day after tomorrow my class mates and I fly out to Tyndall AFB for field exercises. It’s going to be lots of fun. Although, as a result of the fun, this will be my last update before the three of us are in Japan. God bless everyone! Also, everyone is required to send an email our way. If you haven’t already done so, please email your snail-mail address and phone number my way (unless you have already emailed them). Moving to the far side of the world carries with t a high likely hood that a lot of contact and continuity info will be lost. (I must apologize in advance).

PS: Don’t forget to root for VT on the 28th as we take on the evil, #1 rated, USC Spartans.

If you can find it in a theater, then you are here by obligated to take time out to see it.

A pretty yellow line

I’ve been using the so-called Internet café at the billeting facility on base. Theoretically this is a high speed connection. A very pretty yellow line connects the computer’s housing to a sleek looking 7 inch tall black box with a cable connection running into it. This means a Cable connection right? Unfortunately, in this case it means about 9-18K. It takes about 45 seconds to load google’s home page. And google.com is not a very big load. Opening other, more challenging pages is a matter of sincere patience. Instead of internet-surfing, I am internet beached…with a sun burn...with sand in my britches....and without an unbrella....well you get the picture. O well.

Otherwise I have had a wonderful time of things today. I went out and explored Dayton’s Architecture scene. Which is actually very cool for a city of this size. There are several 4 to 6 story tall brick load bearing buildings from 1890s. The masonry work is fantastic on more than a few of these gyms. There are also 3 Frank Lloyd houses within an hours drive of the base, but unfortunately they are all closed to the public.

Rheagan and Lucas are visiting their cousins in Saint Luis. I’m concerned that Rheagan may be covertly trying to turn Lucas into a Saint Luis Rams fan. This will not be tolerated! The family rule is Skins, Chargers or bust.

That burning 80-year old sensation

Recently, I have been going to a rock climbing gym in downtown Dayton. The gym is a remodeled church/cathedral called The Urban Krag. The fist day that I went I had a great time of things. I was climbing all over the place and feeling pretty good about myself. However, things were a bit different when I woke up the next morning: my forearms were on fire and my hands felt like they were 80 years old. But it was a good kind of burning/80-year-old sensation. I felt like I had received a real workout. The story has been about the same every time I have gone to the crag. The best part is that I feel that I am getting in shape faster than I would be if I was lifting. This is another bonus because I have found myself to be far too lazy to keep up a good weight lifting routine. As long as fitness is fun, I am game.

No time unless you make time

Well, as in all things. There is no time unless you make time.....and so I must make time for this web log. :) I hope that everyone is doing well out there. As for me, I have been swamped these last few months. Right now I am attending the Air Force’s basic Civil Engineer course at the Air Force Institute of Technology (Wright Patterson AFB). The biggest thing that I have learned so far is that I am a much better Architect than Engineer. I find higher math an illusive thing to grasp (actually, I find any math an illusive thing to grasp). Everyone here is fresh out of college and ready to rock. I’m one of the 6 or 7 old dogs that don’t remember anything. Except in my case, I never knew it in the first place. lol My math grades in High School were as follows:

Algebra 2: C
Trig: C -
Pre Calc: D
Calc 1: D

It was major miracle for me to have been accepted at VT. Thankfully, I managed to do better in college...but I still think that it is pretty funny to think of myself as an Engineer.

More importantly: 2 weekends ago I managed to get back to VA/ MD to see the family. Lucas is growing into a big big boy. He is eating all sorts of new fruits and vegetables. And he is sitting up on his own. In fact 2 days ago he got into a high chair for the first time (unfortunately, I was not around to witness this event).

As soon as I am able, I will post pictures on the internet for everyone’s viewing pleasure.
